Process for treating high-fat oil seeds

The invention relates to a process for treating high-fat oil seeds, preferably sunflower seeds and rapeseed, to effect the dehusking, to improve the quality of the end products crude oil and extraction meal and to obtain a husk-free seed fraction. The object of the invention is to provide process conditions which make possible virtually complete husk separation and improvement of the oil and meal quality by decreasing the sterol and crude fibre content and increasing the protein content. According to the invention the object is achieved in that cleaned oil seeds are treated under a temperature-time regime by a combination of heating and drying by addition of moisture and moisture equilibration with subsequent moisture removal, so that the positive moisture potential-difference between the moisture contents of the husk and seed fraction is harmonised by heating and addition of water vapour in a closed system and is shifted by drying to negative ranges of the moisture potential-difference between husk and seed fraction.
