PURPOSE:To improve operativity in a method for controlling lateral movement of a container transfer device for a crane by connecting a motor for lateral movement of a hook to inoperative one of inverters for travelling of the crane and for driving of a lifting carriage, respectively, during lateral movement of the hook. CONSTITUTION:A driving motor 12 for lateral movement of a hook is connected through inverter changeover means 15 with inoperative one of inverters 13 and 14, the inverter 13 being for controlling speed of a driving motor 10 for travelling of a crane and the inverter 14 being for controlling speed of a driving motor 11 for a lifting carriage. This allows the driving motor for lateral movement of a hook to be actuated even when the crane is travelling or the carriage is vertically moving, improving operativity.
