An apparatus for the transfer of sweets comprises gripper and wrapping wheels 1 and 2, which rotate at a constant speed and carry pairs of pivotable gripping elements 3,4 and 3',4' and associated plungers 6,6'' for transferring sweets together with their wrappers from one wheel to the other. The pairs of grippers 3,4 on the gripper wheel and the pairs of grippers 3',4' on the wrapping wheel are each pivotal about spindles 5,5' respectively by means of cams 11,12 and 11',12' so that during movement over the transfer zone respective pairs of grippers are coaxially aligned but radially spaced from each other. The plungers of the grippers of the gripper wheel, which are provided with sweet-receiving pockets 6' (Fig. 4), and the plungers of the grippers of the wrapping wheel are each constructed as extensions of the connecting links 7,7' of a four-bar linkage also comprising a crank 8 pivoted about spindle axis 5,5' and bearing a cam 13,13 to effect plunger displacement. The grippers are opened and closed through further cams 15,16 and 15',16'. Wrappers are cut from a web and fed to the grippers of wheel 1 to be held thereagainst by an auxiliary gripper 10 and partially folded over a held sweet by a fixed folder 17. On transfer, the wrapper is folded to U-shape. <IMAGE>
