PURPOSE:To make a conventional jumper line unnecessary from a waveguide type optical switch so as to reduce the man-hour required for manufacturing the titled switch, by uniting electrodes provided in two optical waveguides to one body by means of connecting lines formed similarly to the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Optical waveguides 4 and 5 are provided on a base plate 3 in an axially symmetrical state and halved electrodes 6a and 6b and 7a and 7b are respectively formed on their parallel areas. Then the electrodes 6a and 7b and 6b and 7a are respectively connected with external electrodes by means of connecting lines 8a and 8b. Moreover, the electrodes 6a and 7b and 6b and 7a are respectively united to one bodies by connecting lines 11a and 11b. Since a change in refractive index is produced when a (+) voltage is applied across the connecting line 8a and a (-) voltage is applied across the line 8b, optical switching operations can be performed. Therefore, conventional connection by means of jumper lines becomes unnecessary and the man-hour required for manufacturing this optical switch can be reduced. Accordingly, the cost of this optical switch can be reduced. |
