The invention relates to a fitting for horizontal sliding windows, sliding doors or the like, such that the sliding wing, after its locking position has been released, is movable perpendicularly to its pane plane and subsequently thereto, in a locked-open position (sliding position), is freely displaceable along two guides parallel to one another, and proposes, for achieving a simple solution advantageous in terms of use, that a moved driver (25) be designed as a toothed strip (26) which meshes with a toothed quadrant (27) of a control element (9) and which forms a finger (29) which points in the longitudinal direction of the toothing and which driver, in one end phase of tooth engagement, penetrates positively into a recess (28) of the control element (9), the control element (9) having an angular locking slot (23), into which penetrates a stud (22) which is located on the carrier (21) of the driver (25) and which, when the finger (29) is moved out of the recess (28), travels into the locking portion (23') of the angular slot (23), the said locking portion being parallel to the toothed strip (26). <IMAGE>
