A major problem with brush seals is how to prevent them rotating relative to each other or relative to the housing in which they are positioned when in use. This invention overcomes this problem by providing a capsule 10 into which one or more brush seals 12 are positioned side by side and retained therein by the action of a spring 20 which urges them into contact with a portion 14 of the capsule. The spring may be preloaded to a desired minimum force and is retained in the capsule by deforming the end of said capsule into contact with said spring. A portion of the capsule is deformed into one or more recesses formed in the housing 28 in which it is situated in order to prevent any relative rotation thereof. <IMAGE>
