In order to be able to apply for each wheel set the ever increasing braking powers which are required for rail transport, three brake discs (1a, 1b and 1c) are arranged per wheel set, which brake discs are acted on by two brake cylinders (2a and 2c) via a linkage system, the entire brake device being arranged on one side of the wheel set and the brake levers (3a and 3b) for the central brake disc (1b) being actuated via short push rods (10a and 10c) which are coupled to the inner brake lever (3ab and 3ca) of the respectively assigned outer brake calliper (3a and 3c).
