A rapid heating furnace (1) for material to be heated partially, for example steel bars (4), has a monolithically designed hearth ceiling (9) with a large number of burners (8) which are arranged in an offset manner and have, on the underside of the hearth ceiling (9) facing the material to be heated, burner cups (11), by means of which the material to be heated is acted upon directly vertically by flames. By this measure, it is brought about that the heat is transferred to a great extent convectively to the material to be heated. <IMAGE>
