PURPOSE:To keep off any degradation in electron gun accuracy, and prevent any dusting at a fitting process from occurring as well as to make the extent of image quality ever so better, by making an electrode stick fast to an electrode holder by means of laser beam welding in a direction orthogonal with a contact surface between the mesh electrode and its holder. CONSTITUTION:A mesh electrode 21 is held by a jig and set up in a mesh electrode holder 31 at a right relative position concentrically. Next, a laser beam 34 out of a laser beam generator 32 is irradiated to the circumference of an abutting part between the mesh electrode holder 31 and the mesh electrode 21, forming a welding spot 35, and the electrode is fixed to the holder. The slender sectional laser beam 34 used in this irradiation is formed by a hole a slit 33. With this laser beam 34 applied, even if alignment accuracy to an axial direction of the abutting part is slipped to some extent within the irradia tion range of the laser beam 34, welding is able to be done so that the number of processes for welding alignment is sharply reducible. In addition, since there is no rubbing part, any dusting is kept back, thus such a camera tube that is excellent in image quality is securable.
