PURPOSE:To realize a half tone reproduction, by installing an electron focusing means to focus electrons out of plural electron sources on one point, and performing on-off control of each electron source in corresponding to an input video signal. CONSTITUTION:Electron sources 1 of a solid electron beam generator are disposed in a plane form of 3 pieces by 3 in number. Electron beams emitted out of these electron sources 1 are controlled by a horizontal deflection means 2 and a vertical deflecting means 3, and they scan on a phosphor screen in the horizontal direction. In the vicinity of the electron sources a focusing electrode 5 is provided, to focus these electron beams out of each electron source 1 on one point. Scanning takes place while these beams are focusing on one point, but emission-nonemission of these electrons from nine electron sources 1 takes place independently and individually. With this constitution, quantity of electrons injected into one picture element is controlled in each time, thus a half tone can be reproduced.
