What is described is a cross-winding machine, in which, by constructionally simple means, the pressing force of a contact roller mounted in a traversing housing onto the bobbin formed on the winding spindle is controlled during the winding run. The winding machine has a fixed winding spindle and a traversing device which is moved on a straight guide by a traversing slide and which is supported on the bobbin circumference. The control device consists of a lever which is articulated on the traversing slide and the free end of which is pressed against the guide curve of a guide rule by a force generator. The guide rule is exchangeable and can be adjusted relative to the slide guide according to the desired trend of the pressing force of the contact roller onto the bobbin.
