CONTROLLING AN ADHESIVE LAYING MACHINE

An adhesive laying machine has a nozzle 10 through which a bead 12 of adhesive is extruded onto a surface 14. The viscosity of the adhesive can vary, and in order to ensure that a bead of uniform dimensions is laid, a viscosity-dependent parameter is sensed and the result is fed back to the machine operation which is then altered to bring the parameter back to a predetermined value. Either the speed of the nozzle is altered, keeping the pumping pressure through the nozzle constant, or vice versa.
