Attempts at using the power of the sea waves to generate electricity have so far had only a slight degree of success which has not been satisfactory. The aim of the invention is to remedy this circumstance. In accordance with the invention, a pumping system is proposed by means of which it is possible to drive a turbine with an electricity generator by using the enormous forces of sea waves. A suitable ship (tanker etc.) is anchored near shore. A plurality of pumping stations mounted laterally on the ship's side pump water into pressure vessels located in the ship's hull, from which it is fed in turn via feed pipes and adjusting valves to turbines and electricity generators. The electricity is sent ashore via cables. These systems can also be built at fixed locations on steep coasts which are situated where the flow is favourable.
