PURPOSE:To attain miniaturization, to reduce cost and to improve reliability by holding a U-shaped piece freely slidably in the lateral direction of original paper at an opening ridge for original loading, fixing a permanent magnet to one side and opposing the magnet to a Hall IC provided on a carriage contactlessly so as to set the copying width optionally. CONSTITUTION:A slot 80 is provided to the opening ridge 79 between a loading inlet 76 and a cover 77, a U-shaped transparent resin made piece 81 is inserted to couple its projection 82 to the slot 80 and the U-shaped piece 81 is held freely slidably in the perpendicular direction to this paper. The permanent magnet 83 is fixed to the lower part of the U-shaped piece 81, a magnetoelectric conversion element 84 is provided to the upper face of a sensor base 13 opposed to the permanent magnet 83, and a scale of the copy width designation is provided to the upper face of the ridge 79. In loading an original 10 to turn the roller 21 in the direction of arrow R2, the sub roller 40 follows thereto in the direction of arrow R3. By this operation, the original 10 is taken in between the rollers and discharged in the direction of the arrow R4 to a discharge opening 74. In selecting the copy size in the main scanning direction of the original 10, the U-shaped piece 81 is operated manually to be matched to the scale.
