PURPOSE:To expand the read enable range by coupling a k-digit (1<=k<m) of the head unit not effected by a burst error an a (m-k) digit of the end unit to constitute a new one unit thereby obtaining a unit with very less error number. CONSTITUTION:In reproducing a recording medium where the recording unit of one unit (m-digit) added to a data such as an address by an error detection or correction code such as an identification section of each sector of an optical disk is subjected to n-multiple (n is an integer over 2), the k-digit (1<=k<m) at the head of the reproducing signal of n-unit and the end (m-k) digit subject to n-multiple write are combined to form a new unit, error detection or correction processing is applied to the combined unit to read a data. Thus, stronger coping is attained to the burst error and the data effective read enable is enhanced.
