VACUUM ENVELOPE FOR IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE:To decrease the chance in which the chipped tube is touched by hands during the handling of on envelope and also to increase the strengh of the chipped tube by providing a recessed surface toward the inside of the vacuum envelope from the outer wall surface of the said envelope in the connection portion of the chip tube to the vacuum envelope. CONSTITUTION:A sealed vacuum envelope is exhausted the air through the chip tube 11 previously attached to the envelope, and when the pressure in the envelope is reached to 10<-6>-10<-7> Torr, it is chipped off by melting the chip tube 11 with a heater. The chipped tube remaining in the recessed skirt portion after chipping off does not project outside of the surface of the surrounding skirt portion 9. Thereby the chance in which the chipped tube is touched by bands during the handling of the envelope can be reduced so as to reduce the generation of the breakdown, and when a band is provided on the skirt portion 9 of the front panel 1 for explosion protection the said chance can be made smaller and the breakdown of the chipped tube can be hardly generated.
