PURPOSE:To obtain the objective compound in high efficiency, by reacting a styrene compound with a naphthalene compound in the presence of a clay as a catalyst at a specific molar ratio of charged raw materials and a specific reaction temperature. CONSTITUTION:The titled compound useful as an intermediate for traction drive fluid or electrical insulation oil, thermal medium oil, rubber processing oil, etc., can be produced with simple process in high efficiency with industrial merits such as free from environmental pollution by waste water, etc., by reacting (A) 1mol of styrene and/or its derivative with (B) 0.5-1mol of naphthalene and/or its derivative in the presence of a clay (preferably active clay, bentonite, montmorillonite, acid clay or kaolin) at 20-230 deg.C. The concentration of the component A in the reaction system is preferably <=10wt%. |
