The subject invention relates to novel cyclopropanone hydrate derivatives of the structural formula <IMAGE> wherein R1 and R2 are selected from the group consisting of -H, -(CH2)n- where n is an integer between 1 and 20, preferably 2 and 10, -COCH2NH2, and <IMAGE> and R3 and R4 selected from the group consisting of -H, -OH, 13 NH2, -CN, -COOR5, -COOH, -SH, -(CH2)nOH, -(CH2)nNH2, -(CH2)nCOOH, -(CH2)nCOOR5, -CCH3OH (CH2)nCOOH, halogen and C7-C10 arakyls, where n is an integer between 1 and 20, preferably 1 and 10, and R5 is an alkyl radical having between 1 and 20, preferably 1 and 10, carbon atoms; and to a process for the synthesis thereof.
