PROTEIN HAVING HTLV-I ANTIGENIC ACTIVITY AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

NEW MATERIAL:A antigenic protein, having 59 kilodaltons molecular weight and reactive with an antibody against an antigen p40X related to adult T cell leukemia. USE:A reagent for diagnosing infection of human T cell leukemic virus (HTLV-I). PREPARATION:For example, a plasmid pKI-3 having a lac promoter part, synthetic codon and env and pX-IV genetic part of provirus DNA of HTLV-I is constructed and then introduced to transform Escherichia coli by a calcium chloride method. The resultant Escherichia coli having the plasmid pKI-3 is cultivated and the product is separated from the resultant culture to afford the aimed protein having the HTLV-I antigenic activity.
