PURPOSE:To detect a position at a high speed without complicating constitution, by calculating the position of an object to be detected on the basis of picture element data obtained through a picture element contracting part. CONSTITUTION:The picked-up image signal of an object 1 through an A/D converter 3 is processed by a binarization converter part 4 to output a picture element signal SC wherein only the arrangement pattern and bonding pad part of the object 1 come to 1, and contracted picture element signals SD1-SDn coming to 1, only when all of 9 picture elements respectively three longitudinally and transversely are 1, are supplied to a selection part 6 from a picture element contracting part 5. The selection part 6 selects the contracted picture element signals SD1-SDn of the bonding pad part having a wide area when the signal SD2, etc., are 1 to store the same in a picture element memory part 7. An operational control part 8 calculates and determines the position of the bonding pad part on the basis of the memory content of the memory part 7. By this mechanism, positional detection is performed at a high speed by simple constitution not requiring a binarization pattern matching apparatus equipped with special hardware.
