PURPOSE:To form a metallic film excellent in variety and a decorative property based on the balance of the interfering action of the glosses of mica particles and graphite particles and the hue of a film, by using both of mica particles and graphite particles in combination as the metallic pigment in base coat paint. CONSTITUTION:As the thermosetting resin composition of metallic base coat, a composition consisting of a base resin such as alkyd resin or polyester resin and a crosslinking agent such as amino resin or isocyanate resin is used. As metallic pigment, mica particles coated with titanium oxide and/or iron oxide and scale-shaped graphite particles are used in combination. After the metallic base coat mentioned above is applied, thermosetting top coat containing no pigment is applied and both coating films are cured simultaneously to form a film showing peculiar pearly metallic feeling based on the mutual interference of the pearly gloss and metallic gloss of the respective pigments coupled with the hue of the film.
