A micro-electrode for electrochemical analysis consists of a bundle of carbon fibres electrically insulated from one another by embedding in non-conductive resin. At the end of the bundle the carbon fibres are retracted into the resin to leave fine holes; the exposed end of the carbon fibres at the bottom of these holes may be coated if required with a semipermeable membrane, immobilised enzyme or microorganism or electrochemical catalytically active substance. The carbon fibres pref. have diameter below 20 micron; the depth of the fine holes is 0.5-500 microns. The resin may be a polyester resin, epoxy resin, polyphenylene oxide resin, polyphenylene sulphide resin, urethane resin, silicone resin, PVC resin or phenolic resin. |
