PURPOSE:To accurately detect a flesh color by preliminarily defining the flesh color of a person and referring to this definition to obtain a flesh-colored part and displaying this part with a high luminance on a monitor. CONSTITUTION:Data in a flesh color memory part 70 which defines the range of flesh color and three-color densities of each picture element stored in a RAM 45 are sent to a principal picture discriminating part 71, and it is discriminated whether each picture element is flesh-colored or not. Discrimination results f the discriminating part 71 are sent to a picture area determining part 72, and data which indicates whether each picture element is flesh-colored or not is written as a binary signal. A write and read control part 73 controls write and read of memories 74a-74c provided for individual colors and data read of a picture area table in the determining part 72. At the time of monitor, color video signals stored in memories 74a-74c are read out and are sent to an amplifying circuit 78 through a D/A converter 77. Data read from the picture area table in the discriminating part 72 is inputted to the circuit 78 as an amplification factor adjusting signal, and the flesh-colored part is amplified more than a background part to display the flesh-colored part on a CR 50 as a high-luminance color picture, thus accurately detecting the flesh color.
