PURPOSE:To improve the matrix strength of a sintered material with low-cost materials by adding an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal stearate to metal powder so as to increase the amount of pearlite after sintering. CONSTITUTION:About 0.5% alkali metal or alkaline earth metal stearate such as sodium stearate is added to an iron-base powdery material for a sintered material. Since the additive has a stearic acid group, it acts as a lubricant during molding. During sintering, the additive reacts with added graphite and shows a carburizing effect to increase the amount of pearlite. When the powdery metallic material is used, a high strength sintered material can be obtd. with low-cost equipment.
