PURPOSE:To improve a multifunction and an operability by providing a signal processing means for processing a reading signal according to a designated signal processing mode. CONSTITUTION:An image sensor 2 performs a main scanning by a drive circuit 1, an output signal, the output signal is corrected in shading in a circuit 3, thereafter, transmitted to a binarization circuit 4 through a mode changeover switch 6. Binarization picture information is written in the semiconductor memory of a memory unit 8 through a mode changeover switch 7. When an original 9 is a photograph or the like, the switches 6 and 7 are changed over to a half tone processing circuit 5 side by operating a knob 13. Thereby, the output of the image sensor 2 has a half tone porcessing applied, thereafter stored to the memory. Thus, since the binarization processing and the half tone processing can be selectively used, the picture of a character, a graphic or the like as well as the picture of the photograph or the like can be inputted.
