PURPOSE:To eliminate irregularity of metallization ratio toward radius direction of a shaft furnace by blowing independently reducing gas toward furnace center part direction to the reducing gas supplied from the furnace wall side. CONSTITUTION:In the prereducing shaft furnace 1 iron oxide raw material is reduced by blowing the reducing gas from gas introducing pipe 7 at the furnace wall side. A furnace center side reducing gas blowing hole 4 of the furnace center introducing pipe 5 is opened at the lower position than the reducing gas blowing hole at the furnace wall side, and the reducing gas having the same composition as the above-mentioned gas or the different composition is blown into the furnace center. The reducing gases blown independently from the furnace wall side and furnace center side are ascended in the loci as shown by the broken lines in the attached drawing. The ascendent gas has uniform reducing potential energy to achieve the uniform reducing ratio toward radius direction. In this way, the utility ratio for the gas is improved.
