<p>PURPOSE:To fuse the titled cells efficiently and easily with a high probability of cell fusion producing hybrid cells artificially from plant cells, by treating plant protoplasts treated with a fusion agent in the presence of a water-soluble protein, etc. under low osmotic pressure conditions. CONSTITUTION:Plant protoplasts, e.g. a gromwell or carnation, cultivated in a liquid culture medium are treated with an aqueous solution containing polyethylene glycol and an alkaline calcium chloride, etc. as a fusion agent, allowed to stand in the presence of a water-soluble protein, e.g. albumin, and/or a hydrophilic colloidal synthetic high polymer under low osmotic pressure conditions and subjected to the fusion to give the aimed fused plant protoplasts.</p> |
