BACILLUS SUBTILIS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING INSECTICIDAL PROTEIN AND PRODUCTION OF SAID STRAIN

PURPOSE:To obtain a Bacillus subtilis cell capable of producing insecticidal protein, by linking an insecticidal protein gene to a vector reproductive in Bacillus subtilis and introducing the vector into a Bacillus subtilis cell to effect the transformation of the Bacillus subtilis. CONSTITUTION:An insecticidal protein gene of Bacillus thuringiensis is linked to a vector reproductive in Bacillus subtilis and the vector is introduced into a Bacillus subtilis cell to effect the transformation of the Bacillus subtilis. When a spore-deficient strain, auxotrophic strain or spore-deficient auxotrophic strain is used as the Bacillus subtilis, the bacterial cell cannot be grown when scattered in natural environment because of the lack of demanded nutrient source in nature in the form utilizable by the Bacillus subtilis. Accordingly, the Bacillus subtilis is rapidly exterminated in natural environment and does not cause the death of useful animals such as silkworm.
