PURPOSE:To execute a hard copy of a designated area at a high speed, by writing a boundary of an area whose display is desired, in a work plain memory which is used for an echo display, etc., and outputting a video signal to a CRT, only when the inside of this written area is being scanned. CONSTITUTION:In case of printing only a window 122 in a display screen of a CRT 100, when the upper left point 601 of the window 122 on the CRT is designated on a table 112, it is stored in a CPU 113. In the same way, when the lower right point 602 of the window 122 is designated, the CPU 113 issues an instruction to a display processor 108 so as to set a straight line for showing a boundary of the window 122, to a work plain memory 107, from its designated value and the designated value of the upper left point, by which border lines 120, 121 are set. When a switch of a printer 101 is depressed after the border lines are set, a hard copy of only the window 122 is executed under the control of a hard copy controlling circuit 216.
