PRODUCTION OF MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To stably improve runnability and durability under severe use conditions such as high temp. and high humidity by forming a protective layer on the surface of a magnetic layer of a magnetic recording medium by a method of rubbing a powdery surface active agent thereto. CONSTITUTION:The protective layer is provided on the surface of the magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium formed by providing a magnetic coated film essentially consisting of a polymer binder and magnetic powder on a nonmagnetic base or the magnetic recording medium formed by providing a thin metallic film type magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic base. The formation of such protective layer is executed by a method of using the powdery surface active agent as the material and rubbing the material to the surface of the magnetic layer. Powder 6 of the raw material is supplied from a belt conveyor 5 to a raw material supply roll 3 and is carried by the ruggedness on the roll 3 surface to a buffing wheel 2. The magnetic recording medium 4 which is grasped between and conveyed by the roll 2 and a pressure supporting roller 1 receives the powder 6 from the roll 2 and is thus formed with the protective layer on the surface thereof.
