PURPOSE:To obtain an optical shutter with an excellent shutter function by forming a reflection preventing film on the surface of an electro-optic element. CONSTITUTION:Counter electrodes 2, 3 and the reflection preventing film 4 covering the counter electrodes 2, 3 are formed on a transmittive substrate 1 having the electro-optic effect. The refractive index of the film 4 is almost equal to the root of the refractive index of the film 4 is almost equal to the root of the refractive index of the substrate 1. Although the preferable film thickness of the film 4 is different in accordance with the wavelength of a light source to be used, lambda/4n (n is the refractive index of the film 4) in case of using a short wavelength light source with the wavelength lambda. Consequently, the quantity of transmitted light beams are sharply increased. |
