PURPOSE:To obtain the title highly active catalyst which can consistently give an odorless polyolefin polymer having high stereoregularity and a regular particle diameter distribution, by mixing a specified catalyst component comprising a transition metal component with an organometallic component comprising a silicon compound and an organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst component (A) comprising a transition metal component is obtained by heating 1g of a solid composition obtained by contacting 1g of a dialkoxymagnesium (a) with 0.01-2g of a diester (b) of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (e.g., phthalic diester), an arbitrary amount of an aromatic hydrocarbon (c) (e.g., toluene) and at least 0.1g of a titanium halide (d) (e.g., TiCl4) at a temperature of 0 deg.C to the b.p. of component (d) within 100hr at 30 deg.C or above for at least 1min in the presence of at least 1g of a normally liquid halohydrocarbon (e.g., a 5-15C aliphatic halohydrocarbon). Component A is mixed with at most 1mol, per mol of component C, a silicon compound (B) of the formula (wherein R' is alkyl or aryl, R is H or R' and 0<=m<=4) and 1-1,000mol, per mol of the Ti in component A, of an organometallic component (C) comprising an organoaluminum compound.
