PURPOSE:To ensure the automatic input of information to a disk and to improve the retrieving performance on a large quantity of stored information, by writing the information subjected to frame retrieval through a microfilm on an electronic file which is not kept under filing operation. CONSTITUTION:It is decided whether a disk 36 or a microfilm 37 that read out image information when a retrieval code is inputted by a user through an input means 3. If it is decided that the image information is read out of the microfilm 37, the relevant retrieval frame number is stored in a memory. Then it is confirmed that the disk 36 is not working after detecting the drive state of the disk 36. Then the corresponding frame is read out and the information on the microfilm 37 is stored in a buffer memory 39. The information stored in the memory 39 is written on the disk of the disk memory 36. Furthermore, the retrieval address of the information stored in an index file 35 is changed to a microfilm and a disk from another microfilm to complete this operation.
