PURPOSE:To effectively separate a specific isomer from an isomeric mixture of the titled compounds nuclear substituted by chlorine and fluorine atoms, by using faujasite based zeolite as an adsorbent in separating the above- mentioned mixture with an adsorbent. CONSTITUTION:An isomeric mixture of aromatic halogen compounds nuclear substituted by chlorine and fluorine atoms is separated with an adsorbent. In the process, faujasite based zeolite, preferably zeolite X or zeolite Y is used as an adsorbent to selectively adsorb the aimed isomer. Thereby the aimed isomer 3-chloro-4-fluorobenzotrifluoride useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals and medicines is extremely readily and economically separated from the above-mentioned isomeric mixture thereof, particularly isomeric mixture of monochloromonofluorobenzotrifluorides in ultrahigh purity.
