NEW MATERIAL:A fluorine-containing coumarone shown by formula I (R is 1-16C alkyl; R<2>, R<3> and R<4> are H, F, 1-5C alkyl or 1-8C fluoroalkyl; with the proviso that at least one of R<2>, R<3> and R<4> shows F or 1-8C fluoroalkyl). EXAMPLE:8-Iodo-2,2,5,7-tetramethyl-6-acetoxycoumarone. USE:Useful as an agent for lowering cholesterol, a remedy for arteriosclerosis, etc. PREPARATION:For example, as shown the reaction formula, a compound shown by formula II as a starting substance is simultaneously reacted with iodine and silver trifluoroacetate in a halogen solvent such as chloroform, etc., at room temperature and H at the 5-, 7- or 8-position is converted into iodine atom. Then the reaction product is reacted with a trifluoroalkyl iodide and copper and the reaction product obtained by the second process is hydrolyzed to give a compound shown by formula I.
