PURPOSE:To grow the title good-quality Gd3Fe5O12 single crystal in a short time by providing a solvent consisting of Gd2O3 and Fe2O3 in a specified ratio between a raw material rod and a seed crystal, and heating the solvent at a specified temp. CONSTITUTION:The solvent to be provided between the raw material rod of Gd3Fe5O12 and the seed crystal is composed of a mixture contg. 18.0-21.9mol% Gd2O3 and 82.0-78.1mol% Fe2O3. The solvent is then heated at 1,450-1,510 deg.C to form a floating melt zone, and the floating melt zone is moved in the direction of the raw material rod to deposit a single crystal on the seed crystal. Consequently, a good-quality Gd3Fe5O12 single crystal can be sufficiently produced under atmospheric pressure without using high-pressure oxygen.
