PURPOSE:To produce the title low-iron slag efficiently and easily by classifying water-granulated slag with regard to the FeO content, and magnetically separating the obtained granulated slag to obtain a specified content of iron. CONSTITUTION:The slag melting out from a blast furnace is blown by jet water to obtain water-granulated slag. The water-granulated slag contg. <=about 0.45% FeO is selected by sampling and analysis. The selected water-granulated slag is dried, crushed to <=1mm diameter, and preferably screened to about 0.5-0.074mm grain size. The obtained crushed slag is separated by a strong magnetic separator having >=5,000 gauss magnetic intensity to control the content of the total iron to about 0.25%. As a result, low-iron slag appropriate for the raw material of glass or glass wool is obtained.
