PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL GLASS ELEMENT

PURPOSE:To form the title high-precision optical glass element having excellent optical performance by coating the thin film of an Ir-Re alloy having a specified composition and the thin film of an Ir-Os alloy on the press surface of a heat- resistant forming die, and press-forming the element. CONSTITUTION:A couple of press-forming dies having a concave press surface are fabricated by using a heat-resistant hard alloy consisting essentially of WC, etc. The press surface is specularly finished. The thin film consisting essentially of an Ir-Re alloy contg. >=30wt% Re and the thin film 12 consisting essentially of an Ir-Os alloy contg. >=40% Os are coated on the press surface of a die base material 11. A glass material is press-formed by using the forming die. Since the die meets all the requirements for directly press-forming a high- precision optical glass element, the service life of the die is prolonged, and high-precision optical glass elements can be press-formed in large quantities.
