PURPOSE:To prevent a danger while running due to the maulfunction of an sub-preload applying device, by providing both a main preload applying device, which presses a tip bearing against a spherical head part, and the sub-preload applying device, which changes the pressing force by the aid of a motor in accordance with the information on variation factors while running of an automobile. CONSTITUTION:A main preload applying device is formed with a tip-side bearing 12, which supports the tip-side of a spherical head part 7 and which is made of press-quenched sheet metal, a shut-off plate 9, a rubber ring 13, and a guide 20. Meanwhile, a sub-preload applying device is formed with a movable shaft 30, which is moved back and forth by a motor 32, a sensor 40, which detects the information on at least one variation factor while the car is running, e.g. a car speed, and a control device 41, which controls the rotating speed of the motor 32. Accordingly, most of the pressing force is born by the main preload applying device, and only the pressing force necessary to increase the working torque is born by the sub-preload applying device. Therefore, even if the sub- preload applying device is out of order, there will be no danger to the car's running, thereby preventing the abnormal wear-down of the sliding part.
