PURPOSE:To attain the easeiness of hearing of a sound signal while the recording and reproducing time of the sound signal is prolonged by providing a means applying compression for a time thinning the sound signal and a means expanding the thinned sound signal for an interpolated time. CONSTITUTION:In storing a digital signal being the result of conversion of a sound signal by an A/D converter 1 into a memory 2, the gate control is applied to gate circuits 21, 22 to thin and store a part of the digital signal periodically. Thus, even with the time compression and time expansion the same as the conventional system, the sound recording time is prolonged depending on the ratio of period To to Ti without changing each characteristic. Further, the sound output being the result of reproduction applying expansion to the sound subjected to compression recording is quickened by the thinned signal, but since the amplitude of the sound is unchanged, no difficulty of hearing is caused.
