MANUFACTURE OF SUPERCONDUCTIVE WIRE BILLET

PURPOSE:To obtain the superconductive wire having good adhesive strength on the interface of the inner part thereof by heating an assembly body at the specific temp. in the case of performing an electron beam welding of the assembly body and cover. CONSTITUTION:A superconductive billet is assembled by charging a composite rod 1 into an oxygen free copper pipe 2 and fitting the covers 3,4 of oxygen free copper before and behind thereof. This billet is subjected to a vacuum exhaust by setting it up in an electron beam welding chamber. The electron beam is thereafter projected in spiral line with rotating and moving the billet before and behind and the billet is heated at the temp. of >=50 deg.C and <=500 deg.C. The sealing of the billet is thereafter performed with the electron beam welding of the copper pipe and the butt parts 5a, 5a of the cover. The superconductive wire billet is extruded with hot treatment and subjected to a wire drawing upto the prescribed outer diameter thereafter.
