PURPOSE:To suppress temperature drop on the cooling gas inlet side of a cell stack and unify the temperature distribution in the cell stack so as to aim at increasing of performance of the cell, by thermally insulating the periphery of the stack by means of an extended part of shim member which is in contacting with a cooling plate. CONSTITUTION:Shim members 9 and 10 which are made in hitting contact with upper and lower sides of a cooling plate 4 are projectingly extended beforehand from sealing part of the stack. And the extended part 10' of one shim member 10 is folded upward and the extended part 9' of the other shim member 9 is folded downward respectively and both extended parts cover the periphery of the stack between the adjoining cooling plates 4. In this case, the upper and the lower extended shim parts 9' and 10' on the adjoining cooling plates 4 are jointed or piled each other so that a heat insulating layer is constituted. As the periphery of the stack on the cooling gas inlet side is covered by the extended parts 9' and 10' of the shim except a path 6 of the gas, heat exchange between the introduced cooling gas and the periphery of the stack is suppressed and the gas inlet side of the stack will not be over cooled in comparison with gas outlet side of the stack. Thus, the temperature distribution in the cell stack is unified and performance of the cell can be improved. |
