摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To improve the transmittivitity when a picture element shutter is open by forming the film of one substrate of a monomolecular film or cumulative monomercular film of a high-polymer compd. having a hydrophilic part and hydrophobic part in combination within the same molecule and orienting the films preferentially in one direction on the substrate surface. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal element is provided with a pair of the upper substrate 11a and lower substrate 11b which are disposed in parallel with each other and have fine ruggedness on the surface and transparent electrodes 12a and 12b wired to the respective substrates. A ferroelectric liquid crystal 13 having the non-spiral structure to exhibit two stable states is disposed between the upper substrate 11a and the lower substrate 11b. Orientation control films 14a and 14b formed of the monomolecular films or cumulative monomercular films of the high-polymer compd. are respectively disposed on the substrates 11a and 11b and the high-polymer compds. has the hydrophilic part and hydrophobic part in combination within the molecule. An external factor is given to the monomolecular film developed on a liquid surface at the time of transferring said film to the substrate, by which the arrangement or orientation of the film constituting element after the accumulation is additionally improved in the case of forming the cumulative monomolecular film. The uniaxial orientation control function is thereby improved.</p>
