PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound in high conversion and yield, by the high- temperature vapor-phase reaction of phthalic anhydride or phthalic anhydride and benzene, using a long-life catalyst composed of boria and titania, zirconia, alumina, etc. CONSTITUTION:Anthraquinone is prepared by the vapor-phase reaction of phthalic anhydride or a mixture of phthalic anhydride and benzene at a high temperature (300-500 deg.C, pref. 330-430 deg.C; when phthalic anhydride is the only reactant, 360- 460 deg.C). The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst composed of boria, and titania, zirconia, alumina, tungsten oxide, tin oxide, or lead oxide. The content of B2O3 in the composition is 5-60wt%, pref. 10-50wt%, and that of the second component is 95-40wt%, pref. 90-50wt%. The catalyst can be used continuously for >= several tens hours, and can be easily activated. The conversion and the yield of the reaction are >=2 times those attained by the use of the conventional catalyst. |
