PURPOSE:To enable high accuracy and rapid measurements, by irradiating a beam of light from a measuring apparatus onto the reference calibrating point of known position and measuring its position and correcting the measured results of an inside surface shape from above results. CONSTITUTION:A part or total assembly of an inside surface shape measuring apparatus 3 is inserted into a molten-metal container 10 and measurements are preformed for the inside surface shape of the container 10 by a scanning beam of light conducted by the apparatus 3. And, the reference calibrating point of known relative position relative to the container is installed on the reference calibrating plate 1 in a range in which the apparatus 3 can scan outside the container and measurements are mode for its position and correction is made to the results of measurement of the inside surface shape of the container 10 basing upon these measurement results. Further, co-ordinates of each measuring point on the inside surface of the container 10 subject to measurement by the apparatus are converted to those in the container co-ordinate system specified by the origin representing the reference point inside the container 10 basing upon the results of detection of the reference calibrating point according to the apparatus 3.
