Paper pulp refiner comprising a set of two or a number of facing crown rings rotating relative to one another and between which the pulp to be beaten passes, each crown ring comprising relief patterns 5, 6 which are repeated at regular intervals in similar elementary sectors. The angular opening of the sectors is different in each of the crown rings. Thus, the mean length LM of the fibres is controlled by varying the opening angle OM of the larger sectors and the statistical distribution of the lengths is controlled by varying the opening angle OM of the smallest sectors. <IMAGE>
