In valves, the valve-closing body is to a great extent exposed to damage by wear and corrosion which leads to a shortening of the service life of the valve. In order to improve the service life of the valve, those parts of the valve subjected to wear and corrosion, such as the valve needle (6), the striking disc (10), the guide bore (16) and the valve seat surface (17) in the nozzle body (15), are provided with a wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant rigid molybdenum layer (44) which is thin and can subsequently be worked by means of diamonds, as a result of which extremely high precision and surface quality can be achieved. The coating can be used for all valves. <IMAGE>
