In order to control a water-craft, a rudder blade is proposed whose rudder surface is constructed as an elastically deformable plate. The rigid rudder blades used previously require large wetted surfaces, produce large friction losses with a simultaneous small force for carrying out the change of course. The elastically deformable plate produces, depending on the angle of deflection of the rudder, a hydrofoil profile which has favourable flow properties and produces a large force for carrying out the change of course together with small friction resistance.
