In a process for producing large surface-area panels having a specific mounting height from plastic with a direction-dependent decoration, in particular from transparent plastic for shower partitions, doors, windows or the like, in which a flat plastic profile emerges from a slit die (or a plurality of plastic profiles, merging together to form an overall profile, emerge from a plurality of slit dies), in which the plastic profile is passed through embossing rolls which are disposed transversely to the extrusion and take-off direction and emboss a direction-dependent decoration and/or a decorative film is extruded onto the plastic profile and in which finally the plastic profile is solidified by cooling with a specific width and is cut into arbitrary lengths, a repetition of a direction-dependent decoration over the specific mounting height of the panels can be avoided without the embossing rolls having an excessive diameter if the specific width of the plastic profile is essentially equal to the specific mounting height of the panels. By this means, according to the invention the mounting height of the panels is thus determined by the specific width of the plastic profile, while on the other hand the width of the panels is determined by the cutting to length of the plastic profile. This provides optimum freedom of design for the direction-dependent decoration without the necessity for repetitions.
