PURPOSE:To continue operation at the speed to cause no slip and to increase the yield rate of products, by lowering the speed command value signal when extreme imbalance is caused by a mill roll. CONSTITUTION:The armature current of two motors for mill roll drive is detected by DC current transformers CT 1 and CT 2 respectively and is led to an adder AD. There, the quantity of load imbalance is indirectly detected from the differential current obtained by the comparison of both armature current. A comparator CMP turns OFF a switch S 1 and simultaneously turns ON a switch S 2 when the capacity of the differential current exceeds the threshold value set out by a setter VR. Thus the speed command signal N* is lowered.
